‘Waiting Is Not Easy!’ written and illustrated by Mo Willems who is three time winner of Caldecott Award, is new 22nd installment in ‘An Elephant and Piggie’ series this time speaking about situation frequently encountered when after announcing something to kids, it’s so difficult for them to wait to happen. Our known main character Piggie will drive Elephant almost crazy by telling him there is a surprise for him though he has to wait for it, what is difficult to endure…A great author for children Hence Willems once again succeeded to speak about some known thing all children found themselves during childhood. In nice style, easy to understand even for the younger kids the whole waiting process was shown in humorous way that will be certainly known for kids. Willems using two known charming characters teaches children how to deal with such situations. As someone who is for long time enjoying ‘An Elephant and Piggie’ series it was again great experience to enjoy new adventures of our known and beloved Gerald and Piggie. Therefore ‘Waiting Is Not Easy!’ is Mo Willems another educating and, as always, entertaining title that will be easily enjoyed by parents and their kids, starting from the age 4 and above.Easily you will spend lot of great time with charming characters, reading aloud to children or listen to them read for themselves - therefore as all others children books in Willems opus I can fully recommend it. *sigh* How many more of these do we need? I have been over Elephant and Piggie since We Are in a Book, when they stopped being innovative and started getting formulaic. This one does something interesting with the illustrations in the last two pages, which caught my attention, but then made me wonder why Willems is deviating from his usual style and whether readers would be confused. This book was fine, but it seems that no new addition to this series will ever top those first few brilliant titles.
