This storyline is developed and written in a childish and an unrealistic style. That's why I couldn't rate it higher. I liked Gavin and Jace, their romance was realistic enough and emotionally well written. Gavin was super cute and smart too. When he said to Jace “Sex is about two people. If you don’t want what’s happening, then it’s not worth doing“ we could guess where was the story leading us. I wasn't satisfied with the way it ended, HFN. Blah.... I really really love the way this author writes.... As soon as I begin her books, I am immediately immersed her world and story building ability and characters.Gavin Perez is a bit of a slacker, but not really. Just because he doesn't have ambitions to go out and conquer the world doesn't mean he achieves nothing. He's good to his mum, he's realistic about his life opportunities and most of all, he is incredibly attracted to Jase Ramsey, who he catches up with at a Thanksgiving feast while he's home from college.This is only about 190 pages so she doesn't muck about getting to the connection between the boys, even though Jase is not telling any one about his feelings for other boys. Gavin's happy-go-lucky nature relaxes Jase and makes him feel safe, and Gavin can't believe his luck. He never pushes, he never rushes,Jase returns to college but then comes home for Christmas a different boy. His secrets threaten to overwhelm him, and I thought I would bite my fingers off while waiting to find out what they were. I liked that some of Jase's issues are sort of predictable, but not the only story, I liked that Gavin didn't judge or become a prat when he finds out (very late in the story). And I loved the resolution.I loved references to Rey and Sam, and Schuyler and Barrett and that the fire mystery from their story was all explained here, indeed is a small but crucial plot element in Gav's story,Can't wait for the next one, Acts of Faith I believe. This book is very well named. Secrets weighing Jace down, and being gay is just one of them.
