Title: When I BreakSeries: When I Break #1Author: Kendall RyanGenre: Contemporary Romance Pages: 226Heat Level: 2 out of 4 flamesOverall Star Rating: 3 out of 5 starsReviewed by Naughty Book Snitch KayKnox is a sex addict or so he's been told. He's more than that though. He is the sole provider for his younger brothers and himself. His father abandoned the boys after his mother's death, so Knox does all he can to keep his family together and cared for. His stress relief is sex, plain and simple. His stress relief is plain and simple but not the sex itself. After being forced to see someone because of some of his actions, the therapist decides he has to attend a Sex Addict group. He's less than thrilled but knows he really has no choice.McKenna is a twenty-one year sex therapist. She has her own demons that she's battling. Oh, she's also a virgin. A virginal sex therapist? Right. Impossible? No. Improbable? In my opinion, yes. She feels guilty over the death of her parents and immersed herself in her school work, therefore has no real experience with men. Her attraction to Knox and his to her starts off with a friendship of sorts. McKenna knows there's lines of propriety here that she's skirting and she really wants to help Knox but their attraction finally gets the better of them both. This was my first book by Kendall Ryan and I was disappointed. After seeing her name pop up everywhere on Goodreads, I was expecting something more. There's nothing wrong with her writing, I just thought when she got to the actual sex part, she'd close the deal. Don't get me wrong, there's on page sex but it struck me as more of a YA feel to it. That's something I can't stand in my adult romance. I may try something by her in the future since I didn't hate the book. If you like lots of sexual tension with little to no closure, then maybe you'll like it. This book is the change I really wanted. This book has so much sexual tension that I couldn't believe that the book was read. It went just so fast. In like hours. The book is about a very handsome guy, Knox, his life is not really normal. His mother died when he was younger and left his dad with 4 sons. When his dad left them for a younger woman he was the person who was supposed to take care of his brothers. In that moment he was the person who had to work to pay the bills, cook, clean, and all the other tasks that parents do. He was only 18 at the time and needed also someway to let of steam. That's the way he became sexual addicted. Our heroine is McKenna, she is a girl who lost both of her parents when she was younger, that's the way she was forced to live with her best friend, Brian. They get along very good. And when they finished high school she stayed to go to school at his house. He left to go to a college a bit further. When she decided that she wanted to go to a different city to start a new life, he followed her there. So now they're roommates. McKenna is a fixer that's a real understatement. She works in a shelter for troubled teens, but also in a homeless shelter. Her job is working as a counselour for a group of sex addicts. That's the way they meet, Knox is court ordered to go to this group and McKenna is his counselour. When he doesn't really work with them the first time he's there they have a private conversation. In that way they both get (unconsiously) interested in each other. McKenna sees Knox as a change to act like a fixer. When she finds out that he has 3 smaller brothers and how he acts around to them, that attraction only gets bigger. She goes and visits them more and more. One breakpoint in the book is that they start kissing but Knox doesn't want to take advantage of her so he breaks the kiss of, and kind of leaves her high and dry. McKenna who's still a virgin doesn't really understand what she did wrong and they get in a fight. Well, he feels guilty as hell and comes crawling back, on hands and knees, head hanging (praise the Lord). They talk it out, even though they let the kiss unspoken about. Well, when they get to meet more and more they start also do more and more to relieve the sexual tension. On Saturday when the go to the support group some revelations are made and they get too much for McKenna. She just doesn't understand why he touches her in such a loving way and can't keep his hands off of other girls. (Even though he hasn't had sex for a whole week, he's still a sex addict, McKenna!! A bit understanding? Even though I'm nt sure if I would have understanding...)The ending is a bit dissapointing. It's not really a cliffhanger, we just don't know how they feel, what will happen, ... She broke down on a staircase, he just doesn't know what to do with her breakdown. I liked the story, it kept me reading until like 2 AM in the morning. Even though there wasn't any sex (sorry for the spoiler) there is something that keeps you reading. Maybe curiosity? Read it!
