This book kinda reminded me of what would happen if Haruki Murakami and Terry Pratchett got together to write a book... then it went a bit wrong. The story was OK if a little boring but I found the characters rather flat. The back of the book described the exact kind of story I enjoy, and I am a fan of multiverse type stories. However, this disappointed me :(I have later read it's a sequel to a previous book. Good for this to be mentioned on the back cover! Perhaps partly because I hadn't read the book to which this was apparently the sequel (although I was reliably informed there was no need) I sometimes didn't fully know what was going on. However, this was of almost no importance as the book was so well-written, and constructed in such a way that it truly could stand alone. Hilarious throughout, with engaging characters and some interesting themes. Would definitely read more Holt.
I love that it is actually is a jar. Slightly silly but well-written and a satisfying story.

It was a great book even though I didn't understand half of what was going on.

Mildly entertaining, and not a patch on Portable Door.
