Who Do, Voodoo? (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

Staab's characters are memorable and intriguing. I very much enjoyed the voodoo aspect of this novel. The mysticism Staab portrayed was not over-the-top. It was easy for me to lose myself within the mystic pull of voodoo and Liz's world. ***SPOILERS******SPOILERS******SPOILERS******SPOILERS******SPOILERS***My only complaint is that Staab's transition of skepticism for voodoo within the main character becomes belief within the span of a few days. I have not yet had the chance to read the second novel in this series however, I felt that Liz's skepticism could have been longer lasting. Good story with a little bit of the paranormal. The main character is psychologist Liz Cooper, who we first meet as she’s keeping her best friend Robin company on the anniversary of the death of Robin’s husband. When her friend begins finding Tarot cards tacked to her front door – complete with threats – Liz calls in her brother’s former college roommate, Nick, now an expert on the occult. Nick helps track the origin of the tarot deck, but the woman who reportedly owns it is murdered before they can talk to her. And Robin is the prime suspect. It’s a good puzzle, with some interesting characters and scenes.
