Wonder Woman, Vol. 4: Ends Of The Earth (2009) - Plot & Excerpts

This epic swords and sorcery type story is a very different change of pace for Wonder Woman. After being contacted by a being known as Stalker, Wonder Woman finds herself victim to the Black Horizon, and the only way to save her very soul is to travel to a magical realm and kills a demon lord named D'Grth. She must ally herself with Beowulf of legend, and another warrior named Claw. With a darker tone, Ends of the Earth is a very different type of story. There is a sequence in which the Black Horizon shows what Diana would be capable of if she were to rule, with everyone else on their knees before her. The dark force tries to suck her in, as she grows closer to completing her quest. The most heartfelt moment for sure is when Diana names Stalker. He is so taken aback by her casual branding, but he also likes it. Its a small throwaway moment, but it has a lot of subtlety to it.Overall, this main story is really strange, but it ends strong. The Queen of Fables arc after is not very well done, but the spoof of Hollywood is downright hilarious, even if the Queen of Fables doesn't do as much as I'd hoped. I almost gave this book two stars. I really like Gail Simone's writing, but this was just a mess in some places. Like the last bit about the movie. It was just so weird that all of a sudden the Queen of Fables was there and everything was really trippy. I liked the "look what shit popular media likes to do to Wonder Woman" part, but it was just so out of nowhere. The main story was kind of random too. Seriously, Beowulf? Okay, so maybe Beowulf was actually a little fun. Which is probably why this got three stars.

Good fun. I was hoping The Warlord would also make an appearance.
