You Don't Even Know Me: Stories And Poems About Boys (2010) - Plot & Excerpts

You Don't Even Know Me: Stories and Poems About Boys by Sharon G. Flake is a great book about teenage boys and their problems. This book can help boys relate their problems to those in the book. The first story is about a boy named Two-Kaye getting married at age seventeen to his girlfriend which soon due to have a baby. Two-Kaye starts to go through mixed emotions about getting married, but then is confronted by his soon to be father-in-law. The second story is about a young boy named James who writes a diary about his twin brother’s suicidal thoughts. This story was very sad and depressing but then ended up a having a good ending. Another story was about a ladies man named Tyler. Tyler describes what its like being a player with the ladies and also explains how this affects his academic grades. The last story is about Eric. Eric gives the reader a tour of North Philly during the Fourth of July. He explains how the heat and craziness of the parties going around can make you insane and may also make you do very stupid things, which can have very serious consequences. My favorite story was the first story about Two-Kaye because the story was very emotional and also had a lot of suspense. Whether or not Two-Kaye was going to marry the girl of his dreams, or to cancel the wedding and have an abortion of the baby, this story makes you think how your decisions can affect you for the rest of your life. I would recommend this book to adolescents because it makes you think and you can relate to the stories. I just got done reading the book, “You Don’t Even Know Me” by Sharon G. Flake. This book is an interesting book, and I liked it. It's about boys in poverty who live in Philadelphia. There is one story that was real interesting. It was about a young boy, named Tow- Kaye, who was sixteen. He was getting married, because he got a girl pregnant. The girl's name was Cindella, and she and Tow-Kaye grew up together. He was scared and wanted to run away. He finally realized he made the mistake, and he manned up to it. He loved her and she loved him. They always wanted to get married, but he did not want to get married this young. In the end they stayed together and made things work out. The place of this book is in Philadelphia. The setting of this book is in the morning, afternoon, or night time. The time of the book is in the summertime, when it's really hot out. There are many characters in this book. All of them live in Philadelphia in different areas. There is Tow-Kaye, Malik, and Jeffrey. Those are some of the characters, but there are a lot more of them. I would recommend this book to boys, thirteen and up. This book is for teenage boys only and is not meant for girls. I wouldn't recommend it for boys younger than thirteen, because there is some sexual content and language. All in all, this book was a great book to read and was very interesting.
