ATTETNTION SPOILERS!!!I definately liked the idea of the structure, each chapter narrated by one character and following them for nearly 20 years, though I would have liked to have read a chapter of the story told by Robert, as he is also one of the main characters and it looks like if he is left apart, so that you end up knowing how Maddy and Ben are, but really how Robert is. It's a quite good story, but I think Ben is portrayed a bit too much as a girl in the way he thinks and acts and not so much as a boy, although he does have certain characteristics men always do and they are shown in the book. Plus, though it's a love triangle, I think it doesn't really get to an intnese momentum in the story, I would have liked to see what could have happen if Maddy and Ben really started having something after Robert cheated in her, but everything is resolved very quickly, so that there's no really much intense of who she's going to choose because both Maddy and Ben get distant from each other. 'You're The One That I Want' tells the story of Maddy, Ben and Robert, friends since 9 right through to adulthood and the changes in their friendship when relationships start, particularly between Robert and Maddy. What I really liked about this book and what set it apart from the rest of this genre is that it is told through the eyes of Ben, Maddy and Robert at different ages of their loves starting at 9, rather than just be a telling of what is happening with them in the present with Maddy marrying Robert but torn between her love for Ben. The book is a lovely romantic read and emotional at times when relationships start to go wrong and they have a decision to make over ben's love for Maddy. The only downside for me was that this ended to soon, I could have quite happily read about these characters for a long time. I can't wait for the next book from Giovanna fletcher.
