Years back I remember reading a short story by Maxim Gorky depicting the life of a hapless beggar forced to travel in pursuit of a fellow traveller's wish. A really touchy story of a thankless world. Goat days reminded me the same style and depth of depicting a heartless world. I wanted to give 5 stars to this fabulous novel. But cutting one star out, since the story is a real life incident. Hence author did not have to create a story. His creativity limited to making the story more readable and artistic. But the author is extra-ordinary in writing. The detailing was just out of the world. After reading this book my opinion on the middle east has strengthened, and buttressed my belief that it is not worth going there to make money. More than just a book, this is an experience. An experience that literally takes the readers through the various emotions of its main protagonist, Najeeb. This book has to be one of the most emotionally draining books that I have ever read. This is one of those books that you read over and over again and also give to others to make them read. Benyamin is truly one of the most gifted writers in Malayalam right now. Must read!!
