Are You Ready to Play Outside is a short story. This short story tells us about an elephant and a pig who is playing outside. When it starts raining while they are outside they have to decide what to do next. Piggie and Gerald finally figure out a way to have fun even though it starts to rain. The theme of this book is friendship and happiness. Using this book teachers could incorporate a easy and fun science lesson plan. Students would learn about weather by doing some research. After the students complete their research they would look at the weather forecast for the week ahead. The teacher should then place students in pairs or groups to have them role play as meteorologists giving a weather report. We have not read many Elephant and Piggie books, but they all seem wonderful for beginning readers. They are funny and cute and the illustrations while simple are uncluttered and help with comprehension enormously. After one reading together my son can "read" these books out loud word for word. He has a good memory for language, but the story is mad so clear by the illustrations that he is led along in reading.
Don't give this to your children when it is raining unless you are prepared to handle wet and mess.

I know that feel, Piggie. This is Seattle playtime, spot on. I like Gerald wiping off his glasses.
