Before Now (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

I shall ask a question that has been asked probably since the beginning of time...what is it about bad boys that makes smart girls stupid??How much I loved this story you ask? well, I skipped the first book and thought that I'd read Before Now first, I loved Park so much with Lucy that I absolutely refuse to read a story where he is supposedly inlove with someone else! I can't read it, knowing that all this will ultimately lead to breaking Park's heart and the resulting spiral downwards! Honestly I hated Hope! Just hated her, and blamed her! She was off having some happily ever after, or at least putting herself back together and Park was left to fall apart! I loved how this book progressed through life lessons. It is so true that as life changes you have to adjust your life rules accordingly. Lucy was such a down to earth heroine, and although some people will argue that the book was a little cliche..I have to say that sometimes the best moments in life are cliches! Overall i would recommend it to all hopeless romantics out there. *This review WILL contain spoilers*Lucy is this beautiful hippie chick who is carefree and maybe too kind and forgiving.Park is a troubled man-whore who had his heartbroken by the girl he thought he loved. Together, they are the most incredible pairing. It takes them a while to get there. This book does contain a lot of push and pull between Lucy and Park. There were times when I wanted to kick Park in the balls for being such a jerk to her but he always redeems himself. And Lucy never gives up on him. This is a really beautiful story because we get to see Park grow up and take responsibility for his actions. Not to mention that jerk or not, Park was swooooon-worthy. My complaint is that Park was 19 and Lucy was 20. I dont mind that Lucy is older, but the way Park acted and how he so easily obtained alcohol (like at the bar where he performs) made me wonder about his age and how it wasn't very realistic. He definitely seemed more in the range of 21-23 and so did Lucy. When you realize that Park is A TEENAGER, it almost ruined it a bit for me. Also, they talk briefly about how Park is this closet genius and has a full academic scholarship for computer science but you never really get any proof of that. He never once displays his high intelligence in the book and so I felt that this detail was really unnecessary to the plot as a whole. In fact, I think it would have been easier to just say they were both out of college because they BARELY talk about it and once again, they seemed more mature. Okay big spoilers coming up so beware! Lucy gets pregnant and while they deal with hardships throughout the pregnancy(spoiler!: the robbery at the diner that Lucy works at), they seemingly enjoy being parents. In the epilogue, I disliked how they didnt really go into detail with HOW they were managing as young parents. In a previous chapter, Park and Lucy discuss their schooling and work and how they will work their lives around their baby. I would have liked to see in the epilogue how that played out. Does Lucy still work at the diner? Are they both still attending college? Does Park still perform? Did Lucy declare her major? I would have liked to see these questions answered. All in all, this book surprised me. It was the perfect mixture of angst, sexual tension, humor, and love. YOU DONT NEED TO READ THE FIRST BOOK TO FALL IN LOVE WITH THIS STORY. I didnt read Sometimes Never because it just wasnt the kind of plot I would enjoy, but this one was. I enjoyed this book immensely and did not feel like I was missing any information that the first book would have provided me. Despite some complaints, I still give this book 5 stars and highly recommend it.

I loved this book up to the point when she got pregnant so i did not read on so i do not know happens but i bet it ends happily. I loved the character i loved how Lucy had control over Park in ways she did not completely understand and vice verse and how Park is being challenged by his desire and what he thinks is best for Lucy. But the reason why i gave it four stars even though i did not finish it is because im just not big on being pregnant as a problem that someone should go through, if that makes any sense so whenever i see it in TV shows im watching or books im reading i usually quit right when the that sort of stuff starts to happen.
