Binding Vows (2009) - Plot & Excerpts

Hmmmm.......I really wanted to give this book a good review. When I read the summary of the book, I knew I would love it. When I read an excerpt, I couldn't wait to read this book. Now that I have the chance, I really don't want to read anymore. I am currently still reading this book. But I'm afraid if I keep reading before I give it a review, I'll be so frustrated and angry, either I will not even know where to begin or I'll be not so nice. Now I will finish the book because I hate to leave things unfinished and a book has to be awful for me to give up on it. So this book isn't awful, but I needs some major reworking. I do have to unfairly say that ANYTIME I read a historical highlander books my mind automatically drifts to KMM. I know I should have a clear head, but sometimes I can't help it. While this book had promise, the writing had a horrible flow to it. There were times when it was just boring and slow and I just want it to end. I'm glad there are people who like the book. There is obviously something I just don't see. So 2 stars means 'it was ok'. And that's a good way for me to put it. Depending on how the book ends, I may try her second one to see if it has any redeeming qualities.Update: Instead of judging a book by it's cover, I judged it by the first 100 pages. Although the first half was, hate to say, boring and slow, the second half of the book was rather enjoyable. I hope the series gets better with each book. I just finished Binding Vows, I can't say it was one of my favorites but it was not terrible either. There were some aspects I enjoyed, the Highlanders and of course, time travel. The overall storyline was not bad but the book was lacking something I can't quite put my finger on. I did go back and forth between ebook and audiobook format and the one thing that I ABSOLUTELY HATED was the fact that the entire story was narrated by a man. Which would have been fine except that his female impersonation was HORRENDOUS!!! Even thinking about it right now makes me want to scream. Maybe that was why I didn't enjoy the book as much as I thought I would. The narrator for an audiobook is just as important as a actor would be for a movie. They could either make or break the story.......
