This was by far one of the funniest historicals I've read in some time. I did find myself suddenly laughing a few times throughout the book. This was such a heartwarming story, yes it was a bit wordy and long-winded at times, but it definitely makes for better insight into the characters. At first I didn't care very much for Cynthia but as the story goes on I definitely begin to understand and feel for her. Another great read by Long! This book has 2 scenes that are so funny you have to read it if you like Julia Quinn, or the funny historical romance style books. What would you do if you were to be homeless within 2 weeks? That is the fate of our heroine Cynthia Brightly, who is the guest of Violet Redmond a casual friend Last seasons's shining star there is now some whispers attached to Cynthia's name, but the rumors haven't reached the guests of the Redmond's estate in the country. Miles Redmond is acting host while his parents leave unexpectedly. He has always done the right thing but Cynthia bugs him- and has ever since he overheard her mocking him during her first season. But Miles finds his mouth and body act independently of his brain when he is around Cynthia. He gives her a kitten after learning she has never had a pet, and barters information about the unmarried men at the house party for a kiss. Just a kiss. But his kisses should come with a warning. Miles who has spent a lot of time in the jungle probably swimmin' with barelegged women, knows how to kiss and more. Much more. The girl his father wants him to marry is at the house party too. She is sweet and dull but her father has money to fund Mile's next expedition. Money vs. love as he and Cynthia weigh their wants and needs. So the best scene in the book- Cynthia tries to win over and older man by shooting a gun at a target. I couldn't stop laughing. Another scene is when she tries to convince a different suitor she could meet his needs (hinted to her by Miles). I almost couldn't breathe from laughing so hard. The excessive love/money/greed theme made this 4 stars instead of 5.
