Angels and demons have to work together to fight soulsucking creatures in a small town, teenage girl gets caught in the middle. Sounds like a good enough premise to make for an entertaining YA read - if it weren't for two things: The pace, which just dragged and dragged for most of the book and, even more importantly, the characters - whiny, annoying, gullible and utterly useless Samantha repeatedly made me want to reach into the book and commit acts of violence that are generally frowned upon and equally whiny and annoying Bishop really didn't do anything to endear himself to me either. Most of the characters, with the exception of Kraven, remained shallow and mostly boring throughout. I seriously doubt I'll bother with the second part and will stick to Rowen's works for adult readers instead. **This is a book I read forever ago and only typed up my notes instead of finishing the review. So this will be a mini-review of the cleaned up notes.***I LOVED THIS BOOK! I'd never read anything by Michelle Rowen, and I learned that this was her first venture into YA. Well, BRAVO, Ms. Rowen! This was a delicious smash hit in my book. And the freaking COVER. So dark and mysterious. It definitely fit the story perfectly. The entire premise of this book was just super sassy. I read it mostly in one sitting, and couldn't stop thinking about it. I adored Bishop. I must have a soft spot in my heart for crazy people, because he was my absolute favorite. And get ready for this: Even though there are two male leads, there is NO love triangle! I never got the feeling that Kraven had the hots for Samantha, and she definitely had no inclination toward him other than friendly affection, and that was rare. I love when this happens because it throws people off in a good way.Stoked that there will be more of the story, but bummed that I have to WAIT SO LONG to find out what happens. Huge thanks to NetGalley and for this one. I absolutely devoured it.
What do You think about Dark Kiss (2012)?
Not a bad story but nothing special about it either.Actually I found the characters pretty meh.
