Dewey's Nine Lives: The Legacy Of The Small-Town Library Cat Who Inspired Millions (2010) - Plot & Excerpts

Meh. That's about all that I can say about this book. Overall, the stories were ok, although they seemed very disconnected and sometimes it felt that the author was filling in details without really knowing them. It also seemed that the stories were strung together not because of the common theme that the book was trying to be about, but because of a different theme very different from the meaning of the book. An ok read, but not one that I'd recommend to, well, anyone. This needed more refinement and a thorough reworking, which is disappointing. Well, since I loved the "original" Dewey book, which I read a couple of years ago, I'm not surprised I loved this one as well. I think it would be difficult for anyone who loves cats - or, really, any animals - to not enjoy this book. The only reason I didn't give this five stars is - and this is something I rarely say - I wish it were longer. I loved the individual cat stories, as well as the way the author weaved them into the story of Dewey (the Spencer, Iowa, library cat) and, well, I wanted more.As a once-again cat owner, after a long, dry spell, I will probably be reading a lot more cat books in coming months; this was a great one to start with.
