An earl. A nobleman. A man who ranked well above her father had been trying to steal from him. The idea itself was preposterous. From varying conversations, Max knew that the Bedfords were wealthy. Why did he not simply offer a price to her father for the relics he wanted? Why did he feel the need to steal them?
