Since this is the third book in the series, I enjoyed seeing the female characters begin to question the gendered hierarchy of the streets. It seems as though De'nesha Diamond is beginning to get her readers to think more deeply about power in relation to gender identity. However, the female characters merely become "masculinized" versions of themselves if they are to ascertain any kind of substantive power within their respective gangs. What was disappointing about this book was Diamond's utter disregard for individualized character development. In the previous books in the series, each female character wielded a distinct voice and personality, but in Gangsta Divas, all the narrative voices sound the same. Without the main voices of LeShelle and Ta'Shara for the first 150 pages or so, it seemed like Diamond was lost. I have been anxiously waiting for part three to the “Hustlin’ Divas” series by Denesha Diamond for quite some time now. It’s with great pleasure that I can say “Gangsta Divas” did not disappoint! It picks up exactly where part two left off. I’m not going to get into detail on what takes place in this book but I will say make sure you check it out! “Gangsta Divas” is the epitome of a 5 star read! Everything from the storyline, the characters, and the setting contributed to a well written, unforgettable book! I cannot wait for “Boss Divas”! 5 stars!~New Beginnings Book Club~
