Goldilocks And The Three Dinosaurs (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs is a great fractured fairy tale for children of all ages. It is a hilarious retelling of the classic fairy tale, Goldilocks and the Three Bears. In this story Goldilocks has found herself in the wrong story, 3 dinosaurs leave their front door wide opened for a poorly supervised little girl to walk right it. They leave three giant bowls of chocolate pudding of varying temperatures for Goldilocks to fill her belly with. The three dinosaurs hope to feast on a delicious chocolate filled little girl Bon Bon (which is totally NOT their favorite thing in the whole world). Will the dinosaurs get their tasty treat? Read to find out!If I were to create a lesson plan with this book I would first tell my class the original story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Then I would read them Mo Williams fractured fairy tale. I would draw a Venn diagram on the board and ask students to come up and compare and contrast the two stories. After we had discussed this for a while and gotten a good understanding of it I would ask the students to write their own fractured fairy tales.Willems, Mo, and Martha Rago. Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs. Print. This was a fun one to read. Mo Willens, author of the popular Pigeon books, has taken his whit to the classic stage, fracturing the childhood favorite Goldilocks and the Three Bears. This time, for some odd reason, 3 dinosaurs survived extinction to live in a house in the woods. They decide one day, at complete random, to make chocolate pudding at three temperatures and then leave the house. But, of course their intentions were innocent, they weren't doing so in hopes of catching some wandering kid, oh no! To dive in any further would give away the fun of the book. The author definitely plays with the retelling of the story and although we are familiar with the original, this one gives a surprising, satisfying twist. Children will love the illustrations and hidden elements within the pictures (I'm sure someone is bound to find a pigeon somewhere) and for adults, the spin on the tale is a humorous botching of a worn-out tale. Kudos to Willens for creating yet another ferociously funny book that kids will 'eat' up and ask for time and again!
