Choppy, incoherent & overly pleased with itself. Too bad. Miller has a few great ideas here...pity he couldn't turn them into something more than this mess. It reads, and looks, like a toss-off tale. Something that was dashed off & published for money rather than to give fans a great new story. What a shame. The interplay between The Fixer & Catwoman (er, whomever) made me wish Miller had given these characters to a better writer, penciler and colorist. Someone who could have created a graphic novel that made sense. Two stars instead of one; I threw in an extra for the brilliance that Miller used to be. The only good thing? It's a very quick read. I didn't hate this book, but then I didn't really like it. It was (as the two stars imply) okay. The opening sequence between Fixer and Natalie Stacker was really chaotic and hard to see, and I spent most of my time trying to figure out what the hell was going on. The set-up with the massive Islamic strike against the city lacked motivation and reasoning (other than the terrorists are always out to get us, I guess), and I don't understand where that pink-haired girl came from or went. I also don't understand the role of Muslim women in the book, though perhaps I'm just naive enough to think that extremists just don't trust their women enough to carry out these attacks. That's fair. The only part I really liked was the grittiness and terseness of Miller's dialogue and the way he showed all the people who were killed in the attacks by his use of a ton of blank panels. I thought that was really effective. Also, towards the end of the book, I thought he was using light and shadow and line really well -- much better than in the opening sequence.Other than that, it was okay, but I definitely wouldn't buy this book -- checking it out from the library was more than good enough.
What do You think about Holy Terror (2011)?
This is Frank Miller at his sloppiest. The art's a huge mess and the story is all over the place.

This was awful. Plus it's a complete ripoff of Batman, if Batman was an uninteresting character.

Is this for real? Dangerously close to so-bad-it's-good territory.
