I hate Lucas.I hate him with the fiery passion of a thousand suns. With every book in this series, my loathing for him grows. And with every allowance Secret gives him, I want to douse her in cold water. As evidenced by the amazing cover, this is the wedding book. (Yes, I thought it came along fast, too.) In the last installment, Secret agreed to marry King Douchecanoe and she finally stopped fighting his sexual advances. Now, despite all of his machinations and manipulations, they are taking things to the next level.Of course, nothing can go smoothly for Secret. Before they can move forward with the wedding, her uncle Callum calls the happy couple down to Louisiana so he can decide whether to approve the marriage. Once there, Secret gets to meet the pack that would have been hers, had her mother not turned into a raving psycho. She and Lucas must navigate werewolf politics while solidifying their relationship. All this, as someone is trying to kill her.As deeply as I dislike Lucas and everything to do with him, I love everything else about these books. Secret is finding her place in both the vampire and werewolf hierarchy. Her power continues to grow, and the connections she is making are widening. It’s awesome how Sierra Dean continues to expand this world. We are meeting more new characters, but we never lose track of the old. It’s never confusing or overwhelming, just entertaining.I love how Dean isn’t afraid to get down and dirty with the violence or the more disturbing side of the supernatural world. Outside of their soap opera love lives, the characters are smart, witty, engaging, and interesting. I care about them –and what happens to them. Which is why the romance angle is just so hard to take. What happens with Desmond makes me ill. And the ending made me gasp and groan at the same time.I can only hope that Dean settles all this drama in a satisfactory way (for me!) by the end of the series. I am too invested to ever dream of quitting now.Rating: I have given up on rating these books. I am too torn. OMG I no longer just dislike Lucas - I hate him. He is an arrogant, selfish entitled douche. And Secret - as much as I love her I cannot believe she lets him get away with this sort of thing over and over again. Last book he forced a mating on her without her knowledge or agreement, backed her into a corner re marrying him by asking at an important pack event so she couldn't refuse without damaging the pack, disrepects her, talks about how much he loves her and how it is their pack but never discusses anyhting with her and manipulates the crap out of her "for the good of the pack". He doesn't even bother to tell her the consequences of the mating ceremony - knowing she will no longer be able to be with Desmond who she loves. And then ...then stands her up at the wedding he cornered her into agreeing to. And does he bother to call to let her know he can't make it (its freaking phone call surely you could spend 5 minutes calling whilst on the plane) no he sends his jealous ex girlfriend who hates Secret to tell her.Arg! And Secret lets him!!!!!!!!!!! No metaphysical bond is reason enough to put up with his shit. Sure she gets annoyed everytime he does one of these things but then is kind of oh well its done now and moves on - no wonder he keeps doing stuff like that - HE GETS AWAY WITH IT - of course he wont change. I was thrilled with the ending and Secret saying she was done with Lucas - but based on her previous enabling behaviour figure she will be back with him at some point "for the good of the pack" ( and why is Secret so concerned with a sacrificing herslf for a pack she as been in for all of 5 minutes?). If you sk me the pack would be better off with a different king. Hell let Callum take over. I have no objection to Desmond - he is certanily better that douchbag Lucas but he is fairly bland and certainly not very alpha for an alpha wolf. I want Secret to be with Holden ( not for just one night). Holden and Secret have a real relationship built over time, and working together, with respect, affection humor and chemistry. Please please Sierra don't ruin a great series by keeping Secret tied to Lucas. She needs to be able to break that bond. Oh - and I love Brigit she is awesone.
