4.5 starsI love Holden even more after reading this book. He is so sweet. I don't know how Secret is going to choose between Holden and Desmond, but the author shouldn't drag it out much longer. Then it will just be tedious and will turn me against Secret for her indecisiveness. Secret was also great in this book. Yes she makes bad decisions sometimes and doesn't think about the consequences, but she is so brave and selfless too. This makes her very endearing. There were some very dark moments in this one, which made it both compelling and sad to read. I couldn't give this book 5 stars, because I think the author kind of threw away an opportunity for an amazing rescue. I didn't like how the rescue happened, the FBI thing (don't we have enough factions and characters?) and how the book kept going even after the problem was solved. I do hope that the author doesn't gloss over Secret's experience and we get see some effects of that in the next book. Wow. This installment was just Wow.AFter spending several months hopping from house to house and hiding from Peyton, her vampire nemesis, Secret once again breaks cover and gets herself in trouble. This time with a police record. Way to keep on the down-low Secret. Sig decides, justly, that she's just too headstrong to keep her hidden in NY, and ships her and Holden off to LA to find a missing vampire from his bloodline, who has supposedly gone rogue. That's when things start turning nasty. First, Sig hasn't bothered her with details on the rogue... which leads to details on what Sig is to Secret. Next we meet the villain of this book. And he makes both Peyton and Mercy look like kids playing super villain. I have no doubt Secrets time with him will change her forever. The romance plays a much smaller role in this book than in previous books, but once again cements my opinion that when it comes to choosing between the vamp and the were... I can't. It's hurting all 3 of them, but I have NO doubt that she was telling the truth when she told the fae king that she could love both, and love them equally. With the wolf inside, Secret is almost like 2 people. And each one loves a different man. I would not be able to pick a team. And that's unusual for me. People have compared it to Anita Blake, and while I will agree that the middle books in the Anita series are way too much, the resolution of the romances is satisfying. I couldn't imagine Anita choosing Micah over Nathaniel or vice versa. Or Merry Gentry. I couldn't imagine Merry choosing Frost over Doyle, or Galen over either. Some just work better in multiples. I'll be perfectly happy with that.

Very dark, mysterious, sad and tender, all at the same time. A really good book
