I had gotten this book some time back and it has been sitting on my ‘to be read’ pile for some time. Too bad; if only I had just recently purchased it, I might have tried to get my money back. I had an expectation of how this book would be; a young man, sickly all his life finally getting his first sexual experience at the arms of the only constant in his life; the mysterious reaper that has watched over him and finally arrives to take him home. The first few pages of the book did get me teary eyed as the boy asks for more time on Earth, not for himself but for his family, so he has a chance to give them closure, even though his body will be wracked with pain. When the reaper shows up again, this time to claim Gregory, the young man ‘tricks’ Thantos by asking for the reaper to become his lover, so he can experience it at least once. But instead of a sensitive, loving romance, we get a rather abrupt change of scene and some bad porn dialog. Thantos ‘Than’ and Gregory have two days to spend together at the beach, and Than can’t believe that Gregory is not afraid of him. Gregory can’t believe that Than would want him since he’s so used to having been sick, he can’t believe he once again has a healthy body even though it’s a short term thing. The two start a physical relationship right away, and Than starts calling Gregory ‘sweetheart’ right off the bat (bleh). At the end of the time, the two are in love (surprise, surprise) and have to make some hard decisions. As I said, the dialog is bad, and the author often repeated phrases close together, and if I read the words ‘prick’ or ‘caretaker’ one more time each (there is another word repeated too often too but I can’t remember it) I was going to quit the book for that alone. This was set up to introduce more characters down the road, hopefully those stories will be more polished, as there is great potential. But this book just did NOT do it for me. It’s strange coupling, but I was warned about it. I got some info it was good story. But I was done reading 1/3 and I have few negative point to say. 1 - How can reaper “Thanatos” when asked to be lover to young man who is dying “Gregory” first think to be angry with him for that request but soon after that they have sex together. It is like he is thinking something and doing opposite. We are missing something between.2 – We have sex, sex, sex – is here any real plot?

Meh. Nothing special, other than an interesting paranormal twist.
