La Jugada Perfecta (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

I don't know why it took me so long to find this series. I started with the Wild Riders series and liked them so much that I thought I'd give these a shot and boy I'm glad I did. There are currently 8 full length novels and 2 novellas in the series and I've loved every one of them. Binge read the whole series back to back until I caught up with latest novella release. Series starts with Riley siblings. You have strong, sexy males, career driven strong women characters, fun family dynamic, and really hot sex. The male characters are all professional athletes, the women are involved in a wide variety of careers, some sports related some not. Sports range from football, baseball, hockey and car racing. This is the story of Mick Riley and Tara Lincoln. Mick is a celebrity quarterback, Tara owns her own party planning company. He's really tired of the groupies, the bs that comes along with being a celebrity and just wants to find something real. Tara is busy building her business and raising her teenage son, she doesn't have time to get involved in a relationship. They meet at an event Tara has planned for Mick's team and the romance begins. Good, good read. Let me start with some brutal honesty. I chose this book for it's cover. Let's step back for a moment and just look at that cover, shall we? Spectacular.I figured if the book was half as good as it's cover it'd be a win. Well, I don't think it's even half as good as it's cover. It was OK, but I've read this book a million times before and you probably have, too. The gist of the story is that the #1 NFL quarterback in the country, who is unbelievably hot(remember that cover?) and such a decent guy, is tired of all those supermodels and actresses who eat nothing but celery. What he really wants is that rare and elusive plain woman who eats cheeseburgers. We're everywhere, the cheeseburger eaters. We're not rare and elusive. It's ridiculous that he was having so much trouble meeting this plain and uninteresting woman of his dreams. Then there's her. She's been so focused on her teenage son that she's never bothered to date. I'm not sure where the focus was being placed on the son, since he's NEVER HOME. He's spending the night at other people's homes and going off to overnight camps, etc. in just about every mention of him. I guess she's spent all these years focusing on his empty bedroom?Anyway... It was just OK. There's a whole series of these books and they all have lovely covers (maybe not as lovely as this one) but I think I've read enough. Probably. ;)
