How do I say this without ruining my credibility as a long-time sci-fi/fantasy fan? This is the first of Terry Pratchett's work that I've read. His name was definitely not unknown to me, but I'd never gotten around to reading anything of his. So when I saw this book on my Amazon Vine newsletter, I thought, perfect chance to rectify that.Glad I did!First, let me say, I've found it very, very hard to ever give an anthology or single-author short story collection five stars. They ALL have a mix of stories you love and stories you either hate or at least are indifferent about. A good anthology, to me, has mostly the former, but is nearly never missing the latter. So, four stars on this one because I enjoyed most of the stories, found a few "meh", but found none of them bad. What I particularly loved was the little blurb at the beginning of each short story telling its history--when and where it was published, what inspired it, what it inspired (as many of these were precursors to Pratchett's novels), and sometimes just Pratchett's thoughts on how much it meant to him. The stories pretty much span his writing career so far, and are presented in chronological order. Some he's tweaked or outright edited since their publications, other he's left alone (at times he admits against his better judgment ;).Pratchett's writing is tight, clever, witty, quirky, and varies in style, so it kept my interest, made me laugh out loud at times, and sometimes caught me off-guard. Some of the stories had predictable endings, but they were satisfying nonetheless. I'm not going to give a play-by-play listing of the stories--they're all quite short, so need to stand on their own. Let's just say, if you're a sci-fi/fantasy fan, like quick reads, and are either a fan already of Pratchett's or are interesting in becoming one, grab this book.PS--I love the cover! Un libro muy entretenido, en general, fácil de leer en su mayor parte y con muchos cuentos cortos para leer en cualquier momento y situación. Entre los mejores están: "Turntables of the Night", "The Sea and Little Fishes" , "The Ankh-Morpork National Anthem", "A Collegiate Casting-Out of Devilish Devices", "Minutes of the Meeting to Form the Proposed Ankh-Morpork Federation of Scouts" y "The Ankh-Morpork Football Association Hall of Fame playing cards". Y mis favoritos fueron: "The Hades Business", "Final Reward" , "Troll Bridge" , "Death and What Comes Next", "Hollywood Chickens".
What do You think about Mgnienie Ekranu (2013)?
I love his books, just not this one. It feels too easy...
