Na Pele De Meryl Streep (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

(Book club May 2014) I liked the book and the concept. The characters' interactions seemed pretty typical of most families, and the dialog was very true to life. Some of the scenes, however, would play better as movies than in a book. For example, June is a 20-something single mother with a six-year-old son--yet she still cringes when the "popular" kids from high school make fun of her? And she's still pining over a guy who (as far as she knows) ditched her after a two-day love affair? I can see that in the movies where it's possibly easier to suspend our disbelief. And who (besides Isabel) would march into a not-quite-stranger's house searching for her errant husband? I guess I hold "books" to a higher standard of logic than I do "films," because I can easily imagine this in a film, but it doesn't seem to hold true to the character in a book. I understand why the scenes were there (plot points, characterization, etc.) but they just didn't work for me. Still, it's a satisfying beach read--something to read, digest, enjoy, and move on. This book is touching in the most beautiful and tragic ways. Some things turned out the way I expected; others did not. One thing that I appreciated is the message of following your dreams no matter how difficult it may be to leave the life that you currently have behind. To end life filled with regret is the worst way to leave this life.I also love Meryl Streep. I have seen some of the movies that the author mentions which helped me understand the conflicts and issues the characters of the book were going through. The other ones I plan that I haven't seen I plan to watch very soon.

Summer chick lit. Would make a good Hallmark or Lifetime movie.
