Willems, Mo (2009). Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed. Disney-Hyperion.Black-Eyed Susan Book Awards - Picture Books 2011Picture Book SoakThis book struck my interest because my six year old daughter had mentioned the author a time or two. The simple pictures and light hearted humor make this book a fun read. The text is written in different sizes to emphasize different voices, volumes and tones. The title itself is quite catching. The story is about a naked mole rat named Wilbur. Wilber likes clothes and is the only naked mole rat that is not naked. The colony of naked, naked mole rats start to get mad at him. Will he stay dressed, or will the colony convince him to be like them? Love the fun message about individuality (even though I don't like that it had to come from a leader for the others to be individuals), but z mostly loves it because it repeats the word "naked" :)Reading: What do you notice that Wilbur likes to do?How do the actions of the mole rats change over the course of the story?Writing:Consider a time you changed your mind about something (will require strong teacher modeling). Write about a time your friend wanted you to do something, and you wanted to do something different.
I love the minimalism in Mo Willems books. I would love this and the rest for my classroom library.

A little bit of weirdness from the great Mo Willems. My 2nd-grader thought it was funny.

I like Mo Willems and this is a pretty cute story. It's not my favorite of his though.
