This is a very pleasant read, if you are looking for something light and funny but still heartfelt. As I am a cat-owner I'm not sure if you have to be one or not to really 'get' the humour, but I do think that if this writer was tackling any other topic with as much familiarity and affection, it would be just as entertaining. It muses on some of the big things, like mortality and family and trust, but it's never heavy-handed. Although, it is autobiographical, all the details of the author's life really come through the filter of his cats and his characterisations of both animals and humans alike are wonderful and warm. Humorously and very well written. Incredibly funny depictions of Tom (the author's) cats, friends and parents (especially his dad) right through the ups and downs over a small period of Tom life. The traditional structures of a novel with a definitive problems and obstacles aren't easily detectable, especially if this is a representation of real life - so reads a bit like a meandering but always addictively funny journal Highly recommend this book to those who enjoy a laugh, but especially to those who know/owns/subjected to cats.
