Richard Stark's Parker: The Outfit by Darwyn Cooke is about a man name Parker who comes back from a job he has done in the old book. The job lead him to have many people against him so in this book he decides to get surgery done to his face. He starts off with a girl, he's a womanizer, who is dragged down with him when someone tries to kill him. Later on he teams up with a group of people for a job, the one girl in the group is trying to betray them and take the money for herself, when they soon catch her. Parker finds his self trying to get some money for a job with Handy McKay, they use a plan to invade this house and end up getting the money from the man who had guards in his house.I admire Parker even though he is a criminal because he always gets the job done. Whatever job he has to get done, he does it, it doesn't matter how serious the job is he's going to want pay. Also, Parker shows a lot of loyalty because when he has a job to be done and he is splitting the profit, even with an enemy he still splits it. Parker is a trustworthy person from my eyes even though he is put out to be a criminal through others. I also admire Parker because he gets a lot of woman, he's a womanizer, that could probably get any women he chooses. These are some of the qualities I admire about him because I soon will want these qualities. Although, during the book it may seem that Parker does not put a lot of enthusiasm in the book, he actually has great plans to get a job done. These are great qualities to becoming a great criminal but a man as well. Book 2 Of Darwyn Cooke's graphic novels based on Donald Westlake's, aka Richard Stark, Parker books is The Outfit. This story picks up not to long after the first story, The Hunter, had ended and it continues the story of Parker's run in with the Outfit. Parker has gone back to his life of resorts and rich women after he had gotten plastic surgery to change his looks when an Outfit hit man tries to take him out. This sets off a series of things as Parker has to "convince" the Outfit to leave him alone. What is really great about this story is that as you follow Parker through his plan to get the Outfit off his back there is a great set of side stories that come up about other "pros" who are hitting the Outfit at Parker's request. This to me really amped up the story and got me that much more involved in what was going on. The various "jobs" that are done and how they are done becomes almost more fun for me to read then the main story line, which has it's own unique and enjoyable twists. This book really builds on what was done with the first book and not only repeats what was right in that book but adds more that is new and fun in this universe. This is really stellar story telling.Pithy review - Oceans 11 with real bad guys.
What do You think about Parker: The Outfit (2012)?
Wonderful art, though less engaging on the story level that I would have liked.
