Pete The Cat And His Not So Grumpy Day (2013) - Plot & Excerpts
Pete the Cat and His Magic Sunglasses by Kimberly and James Dean drew my interest because like the authors, I am a cat lover. Pete is having a bad day until his friend Grumpy Toad gives him some cool, blue, magic sunglasses. Pete shares his glasses with different animal friends, and they all become happy. This book has a positive message despite Pete's initially disappointment at the end. Great read-aloud for preschoolers to third grade, with wonderful illustrations. I can't even explain my emotions on this book. I saw the book trailer and I was just screaming because it seemed like something I would write. I read this around the end of February along with my best friend. After a while, I started to get lost in a sea of thoughts of what Pete's sunglasses actually stood for. I eventually decided that his sunglasses were a metaphor for drugs, alcohol, self harm, ditching school/work, etc. Basically anything people would do to get away from their problems. Wow.Anyways... read it. It's so cute.
