Hey, it's Pete the cat. Why wouldn't I like a book with coolest cat around. Pete is now making an enterance in the beginner books area. After hearing the author read the first Pete book I can't read a Pete story without hearing his voice so Pete has become even cooler in my mind. Not only does this book have the right level of vocabulary and sentence structure for a beginner, but it also teaches an important concept, being a good sport. Pete starts off with a strike out, but he still cheers for his buddy when he hits a home run. Pete keeps trying his best and does better. Even though the other team wins everyone high fives and it's all good. I liked this book. But it wasn't as amazing as the other Pete the Cat books. I miss the sing-song feeling. But I guess that is what you get with an easy reader. However, in this book Pete strikes out, drops a fly ball, and is thrown out (after walking). So he never does anything right. But it's still okay--or at least that is the message. Even though children sometimes don't do things right, sometimes they do. And I kindof was hoping Pete would do one of the three things right. But he didn't. I'm glad he still had a good attitude, but this book didn't feel as up-beat and happy as the ones with the free songs on the publisher's webpage. *sigh*

Not as good as some of the other "Pete" books, but it was still a hit in my home.
