E eu queria mais suspense."A aventura da cozinheira de Clapham": Mais um crime que não tem um grande mistério e nem a sua resolução nos traz grandes momentos."O Mistério da Cornualha" e "A Dama Velada": Dois contos muito bons, com Hercule Poirot no seu melhor. Quase sem provas físicas, só através de deduções."A Aventura de Johnnie Waverly", "O Duplo Indicio" e "O Roubo das Miniaturas": São três contos sem muito interesse porque os casos em questão assim o permite, onde um roubo e o rapto têm o enfoque principal."O Rei de Paus", "O Expresso de Plimouth" e "O Mistério do Lenço de Cambraia": São três contos engraçados, daqueles de nos fazer usar o cérebro para acompanhar o raciocínio de Poirot."A Herança dos Lemesuriers": Conto muito bem desenhado, muito bem pensado, especialmente a última frase do Poirot que me deixou de boca aberta."A Mina Perdida": Não faz muito sentido este conto na linha do trabalho do Poirot, se bem que o que ele descreve ao Hastings é algo que ele fez na policia Belga, o seu antigo trabalho. Mas acho que foge ao resto dos contos."A Caixa de Chocolates": Poirot conta-nos a vez em que um criminoso lhe passou a perna e em que Poiror não acertou no assassino. Muito bom."O Apartamento do Terceiro Andar": Muito boas deduções mas um bocadinho rápidas, mesmo para o Poirot."Problema no mar": Um bocadinho confuso, quer o crime em si quer a sua resolução."O Mistério da Cliente Morta": Interessante mas bastante previsível em termos de desfecho.
This collection illustrates very well what is meant by the term "a cozy mystery." The stories in this book are like little puzzles, and they are a pleasure to read. Poirot is strong here, exercising his "little grey cells." I found it interesting that there are a couple of stories where Captain Hastings is not present. In the last story, we meet Poirot's secretary, Miss Lemon, who is passionate about filing systems but not so much about human interaction. The collection featured a story I had read before, the one about the Veiled Lady. I can't recall where I read it, likely in some other anthology, but it was nice rereading it in this collection. The neat thing about the book, for me, is that the stories were short. This makes for a nice sampler, and if you really like Poirot, it may encourage you to seek out the longer novels featuring the Belgian (not French, get it right) detective. In addition, for me, I find the time period where the tales take place, right after World War I and into the 20s, to be a fascinating time period, and Christie captures it well. Even something as simple as traveling by train, which we can't imagine as much today (certainly not in the U.S.) seems very romantic in Christie's work. Overall, this was a nice leisurely read for me.

التقييم الحقيقي :٤.٥ على الرغم من صغر الرواية الا انني قسمتها على اسبوعين تقريبا لكي امتع نفسي كل يوم بقصة قصيرة منها، وادع نفسي طوال اليوم افكر بالقضية وكيف تم اكتشاف القاتل .. لم يكن يهمني من القاتل بل كنت اهتم بشدة الى طريقة اكتشاف الجريمة ، الى الخطأ البسيط الذي وقع فيه المجرم ! في بداية قرائتي لاحظت ان بوارو يشبه بشدة شيرلوك ، تضايقت وبشدة لان الشخصيات يجب ان لا تقلد!! ثم قررت البحث في الموضوع ولاحظت ان اغاثا قد قالت في سيرتها الذاتية :"I was still writing in the Sherlock Holmes tradition – eccentric detective, stooge assistant, with a Lestrade-type Scotland Yard detective, Inspector Japp"عند قرائتي للاعتراف قررت مسامحتها :D

O antes..."Quando soou a última pancada do relógio, ouvimos um alvoroço do lado de fora, gritos e homens a correr. O inspector levantou a vidraça e um guarda aproximou-se ofegante."É a primeira vez que estou a ler dois livros em simultâneo e por isso mesmo escolhi uma segunda leitura intensa e atractiva mas constituida por várias histórias de Hercule Poirot, para puder avançar com calma e não me perder no meio das duas leituras. Quanto a este livro espero gostar tanto como outros de Agatha Christie que já li, gosto bastante da sua escrita e sinto-me interessada por saber sempre mais e mais....e o depois!Gostei de ler estes primeiros casos de Poirot mas confesso que do primeiro ao último fui notando que havia menos diferenças nas tramas, ou seja, os primeiros casos relatados no livro tinham mais suspense e requeriam mais mestria da parte do detective para os resolver do que os últimos. Os casos mais extensos (livros sobre um determinado caso) continuam a ter a minha preferência.

I normally don't enjoy short stories, however, this book felt somehow different to all the others I read and I enjoyed most of the stories.I think some of them would be even better if they were a bit longer, like The Adventure of Jonnhie Waverly and The Veiled Lady. Others were perfect the way they were and managed to keep me holding on and surprise me with the ending even with just a few pages, such as Problem at Sea.Most of them I already knew from the David Suchet's movies, which are so good that I can't help but seeing Suchet's face when I'm reading any of Poirot's books.
