I’m sorry I haven’t been posting much lately. I’ve been busy working and READING. I read three books last week. I get in a cycles where I read nonstop and do almost nothing else. It’s not good for my waistline but still worth it.I read this book in one day after a ten year old I know just finished it. It’s incredibly fast (I think the book is in a three day period) and full of action. I like the way Rowen sketches her main character: an honest 16 year old who finds out her father is the king of a realm that keeps hell’s creatures from getting into the human world. She’s not a snotty 16 year old even though she finds her way into the “popular” crowd at high school. Some of the dialog isn’t really believable for a modern 16 year old girl, but since she’s a Canadian author I guess I’ll cut her some slack (maybe they have better grammar up there?).Having now read the second book (with the third book on it’s way to my house via Amazon) I am happy to continue this series even if the ending of the first book was a little cheesy (people just HAPPEN to have very important things in their pockets…yeah). I also do get annoyed with PRINCESS stories since they’re very abundant now-a-days and are over girly for me (as a serious tomboy) but this one is well done. For parents out there this is an appropriate book for grades 6-10. There is a lot of kissing and a tense, almost-rape scene (non-graphic). Reign or Shine is the first book of the 'Demon Princess', and it was an alright start to the series, but I would first like to say the rest of the series is a lot better. The book follows Nikki, a teenage girl living in Canada. She comes a bad home as her mother is no longer married to Nikki's birth father and is now married to a awful new father. Nikki never knew too much about her birth father, until one day a mysterious boy starts following her around and tells her that her father is a demon, and now that she's ill, she's going to have to take his place as she is his only child. The story has a good plot as it continues to tell the story of Nikki. I enjoyed the book fairly well, but as I said at the beginning of this review: the rest of the series was better. The story has a good 'Forbidden Romance' plot as well and later books turn it into a love triangle. The book is obviously aimed at teens, and I think the target audience would enjoy it the most. All in all, the book was decent, and I enjoyed reading it. Don't let the title of this one scare you off, because I think it was pretty good. If you are a teen and you like paranormal romance, do pick it up.
What do You think about Reign Or Shine (2009)?
This book was great. I couldn't put it down until I finished it all.
