In my opinion, this book makes a great conclusion to the first Deltora Quest series. I revolves around the series three main protagonists, Lief, Barda and Jasmine who have finally retrieved the seven gems of the belt of Deltora and are on their way back home to face a common enemy. This certain book in the series deals with different themes in comparison to the other novels. It show's the main characters more emotional side to the conflict and how they cope with having their loved ones completely surrounded by danger. As they return home, they notice how the Shadow Lord's forces have already arrived in Del, waiting for the protagonists to return with the belt. The Heroes are forced into hiding in order prevent themselves and others from being hurt whilst trying to prevent the belt from falling into the wrong hands. What I truly liked about this novel is the level of emotion showcased by each of the characters in the novel and how appropriately their thoughts fit into the situation at hand. What I also liked about this novel is the level of description, particularly from the secondary characters about how they cope under the Shadow lord's tyrannical regime and what they have to do in order to survive. What I do criticize about this novel is the lack of adventurous feel to the story like the previous novels and the lack of thrill throughout the story (except for the end). I also criticize the stale environment whilst the characters are in hiding throughout most of the novel and the lack of interesting environment description, in comparison to the previous novels. Other than that, I have truly enjoyed this novel, I reckon that it is an excellent conclusion to the first Deltora Quest series and I highly recommend it to anybody who is a fan of the fantasy genre. I rate this book 3 out of 5 stars.
Return to Del is a very good book. In Every page of this book there is a new twist on the story, and it makes it that much more interesting. It is the best book in the series and is a good way to end the story of Lief and his friends. I was upset with how it ended, but that didn't really effect how great this book is.This book starts out slow. In the beginning it wasn't that exciting. There wasn't any action, just a buildup to what would happen in the last about 50 pages of the book. Lief figures out who Doom really is and why Jazmine was found in the forest. There is even a huge twist in who he thinks they are now. Lief finds out the history of his parents and why he was picked to find the belt of Deltora. It ends in a cliffhanger, and that is bad decision on part of the author since it's the last Deltora Quest book.I would recommend the book to younger boys and girls who like fantasy because it was a easy book. There weren't very many hard words. The book was very easy to understand if you read the other books in the series.
1) This book fits under the category "A book written by a female"2) I decided to read this book because I have read some of Emily Rodda's books in the past and enjoyed them and I also needed a short book to read during class.3) I liked the action of this book and the twist at the end.4) It didn't explain what some of he creatures or who some of the main characters were so things were a little bit confusing. This wouldn't have happened If I had started this series from the first book though.5) I would recommend this book to those who like a fast-paced action book.

Finishing the last book in this 8 story series was satisfying, but I felt a bit let down that we didn't see or hear much from the Shadow Lord after all the build up throughout. Maybe there are other books where you learn more about him. While I have to admit I was sure I knew who the heir was, and I liked the multiple fake outs at the end, I thought it was almost one too many fake outs in too short a space in the book. Yes, this is a Young Adult book, but still, a lot of time passed without knowing much of what was going on between all the days as the 7 tribes came about together. Overall, though, an enjoyable quick set of reads, that my 10 year old will enjoy reading in the near future I hope.
