Dans ce dernier tome, Linda Lael Miller nous présente Brody, le mouton noir de la famille, celui qui a abandonné ses responsabilités vis-à-vis du ranch familial pour aller courir les rodéos et autres exhibitions. Il rentre enfin à la maison et a fait la paix avec son jumeau, Conner. Revenir à Lonsome Bend signifie aussi risquer de tomber sur Carolyn Simmons, la femme avec qui il a vécu une brève passion il y a quelques années, et qu'il a quittée sans un mot d'explication. La revoir lui fait prendre conscience de ce dont il a vraiment envie dans sa vie. Mais la jeune femme ne sera peut-être pas d'accord avec ses projets.Les deux premiers tomes étaient sympathiques, mais celui-là est vraiment bien. La relation entre Brody et Carolyn est compliquée et leurs sentiments sont plutôt confus. Brody a vécu un événement traumatisant, mais il est prêt à reprendre goût à la vie et il veut absolument Carolyn. De sont côté, la jeune femme ne sait pas où elle en est, et redoute de tomber à nouveau dans les bras du cowboy. On les voit tourner l'un autour de l'autre et tenter de s'apprivoiser. Une jolie romance pour passer un agréable moment de lecture. I love westerns, and I usually love LLM. However, I just couldn't get invested in this story. The worst part for me was how whiny and wish-washy the heroine was. Carolyn could have been quirky and interesting, but instead came across as childish and petty. She had a reasonable grudge against the hero, but a five minute conversation (preferable one that could have happened about 6.5 years prior to the setting of the story) cleared it right up. Huh. These two must not be too bright. As for the hero, he was more likeable than the heroine, but still annoying in the poor characterization of him: was he agonized by his past, or off being a lady's man with his sometimes-girlfriend? It just didn't jibe.SORT-OF SPOILER AHEAD: Lastly, am I the only person who is tired of so many stories using the whole she-got-pregnant-so-he-has-to-marry-her thing? This book was written in 2011! You can still be honorable and do the right thing without a loveless marriage, people! Am I right?
