The Happiness Trap: How To Stop Struggling And Start Living: A Guide To ACT (2008) - Plot & Excerpts

I did like this book but at times it was a bit annoying (that maybe because the truth hurts)It is worth a read by everyone, even if you think your life is good. I have read pages to my kids and I guess that is why I like it so much, they can understand it. I would rather Eckhart's 'The Power of Now' but it is more spiritual and meditative, whereas this is very straight forward. This is a very analytical book, with lots of ways to 'deal' with life and our minds and our continual thoughts. more of us need to prescribe to this idea that we don't need to feel good ALL THE TIME and that negative thoughts and emotions are simply part of being alive. The book itself isn't ground breaking but there are definitely helpful things in it, particularly the ideas of defusion and expansion. I have always found with my own bouts of depression that they go away a lot faster if I just ride them out, and this book gave me several techniques to employ to make that easier. Otherwise, it wasn't much different from other self-help books I've read about living by your values, etc.
