He hadn’t hung up but the sounds were muffled, making her think he’d put the phone in a pocket. She heard words. Was he talking to someone? She eased up from the bathroom floor and unlocked the door. Cautious, tense and ready to react to any perceived threat, she stepped out into the bedroom. When nothing happened, she crept over to the door that led out into the hall. “Are you crazy?” Clay’s shout echoed through the house. Sabrina froze. Should she go out or stay put?
