I read this book when there was a lot going on in my life. I was going through a very difficult moment. I certainly knew that this book was hard and … 'intense', but I wanted to read it anyway. And, even though it might sound strange, reading this heart-breaking story helped me a lot to overcome my own 'situation'.At first I had trouble getting used to Mazzantini's writing style, that can result a bit confusing during the first pages. But then, things got really exciting. The rhytm of the novel is at first a bit slow, but then everything happens simultaneously and you just can't stop reading until the end. At least that was my experience. Addictive book. Reading it took me only four days and it was a hard but fascinating experience. It's an excellent book, and in addition it has taught me a lot about Balkan's war. I didn't know anything about it before reading Twice Born.Pictures of war, desperation, love, loneliness, Sarajevo, starvation, violence and hope are still in my head after reading this book, and I've read it months ago! It really marked me and I also watched the film, with Emile Hirsch and Penelope Cruz, that is a very good adaptation, I must add.I'd recommend this book to anyone interested not only in reading a fantastic fictional novel, but also in having a very interesting History lesson and learning a bit more about Balcanic countries and their pasts.
What do You think about Twice Born (2008)?
