Auschwitz Escape, The (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

The accounts of what it was like in Auschwitz was unnerving and I'm sure extremely watered down from what really happened. As it was I was able to gain a small understanding of what happened, and it terrified me because of what happened. The characters are relate-able. The story is well written. You get to see strength and willpower, faith and resistance. There is more sadness than happiness, but that is to be expected given the topic. I like how in the authors note he comments on how some real events were incorporated into the book. Being of Jewish decent on one side of his family it must have been very hard to write this book. Kudos to him. I'm conflicted because I loved this book for about 420 or its roughly 470 pages. Not a spoiler but it gets a little heavy into the evangelical Christian preaching and I found that to distract from the story and an unnecessary plot device tacked on at the end. I felt like the author told a very important and riveting story about the atrocities of the nazis and the spirit of the victims, but tried to tack on bible lessons at the end I didn't want to hear and that didn't need to be in the story. Still though, an overall fantastic book. It's like an amazing dinner that leaves you with heartburn later.
