Just finished DEAD CASE IN DEADWOOD by ANN CHARLES. A sassy, sexy, and spooky story featuring real estate agent Violet Parker who suspects the Mudder brothers are crating up and transporting body parts from their mortuary in Deadwood, South Dakota. Violet and her best friend Natalie try their best to stay out of the clutches of Det. Cooper as they investigate the Mudder brothers ties to Violet's despised coworker, Ray. At the same time, Violet's love interest, Doc Nyce, is doing his best to stay clear of the ghosts that inhabit the Old Prospector Hotel, a building Violet is desperately trying to sell to ghost hunter Cornelius Curion. Light reading, but fun. Getting ready to dive into the next book to see if the loose ends in this book are tied up!!! I thoroughly enjoyed books 1 and 2 but this one I could have easily done without. Violet seems to be losing brain cells as she ages. It wasn't clear why she felt she needed to continue investigating things on her own, she was lying way too much and her language leaves a lot to be desired. I might have missed it but I don't remember why she was so angry and hateful toward her sister. The paranormal crap is getting to be too much. I was fine with Doc and his visions and even weirdo Cornelius but Violet's first seance experience was too crazy for me. Poof and the image is gone? I read this for the humor and mystery, not the paranormal stuff. There were too many references to the previous books and honestly, I read them so long ago I don't remember half of what she was talking about. It must have been fun trying to figure things out if someone hadn't read the others at all.The secondary characters have too much of the same thing said over and over about them. Detective Cooper and Ray, both of whom need a lesson in how to talk to women, continuously harass her every change they get. Harvey sounds funny and a little crazy but we get how much sex he's having with every female that will have him, we don't need to keep reading about it.The story with Doc is getting annoying. Why he puts up with her is a mystery. She expects him to tell all but keeps things from him time and again. The sexual tension is no longer funny, just old. As I read, I kept having visions of Stephanie Plum and the similarities between her and Vi.The ending was simply awful! Don't make me read another book to find the outcome of this one. I just checked the reviews of number four to see if I could find out what happened only to read there is more paranormal stuff than this one and yet another cliffhanger at the end. That answers the question of whether or not I'll waste my time on it.
