Optical Delusions In Deadwood (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

This book takes place just a few months after the first in the series. Violet Parker is still recovering from her ordeal from being in a serial killer's clutches. To top it off, she's getting a reputation in the community for taking on paranormal and odd houses to sell. She's also dealing with her romantic feelings for her client, sort of lover/boyfriend, Doc Nyce and the fact that her best friend, Natalie, has laid claim to Doc. Violet doesn't actually want to cause waves, but she just can't get Doc out of her thoughts and he claims to feel the same. His ability insensing ghosts, her irritating male chauvinist "jackass" co-worker, Ray, her daughter wanting her to marry her best friends dad, the fact that her son found a dead body part, that Ray and the local funeral directors also have some scheme going on, and her client/friend Harvey has something wrecking havoc at his place also weights on her mind.Because she needs the income, Violet takes on another house with a reputation for murder and mayhem. The house is lovely, the family there is... odd. Before Violet knows it she is caught up in crazy love triangles, an ancient religious cult, and of course more murder and mayhem which is even giving her nicknames in the fire department and police station! I enjoyed this book so much more than the first. Although Violet was still sort of whiney and woe is me, it was toned down enough to get past it without having it interfere with the story. More insight was also given to Doc which helped explain his behavior, even though it didn't necessarily excuse it. Violet and Doc still mostly dance around each other for a great deal of the book, but it flowed so much better in this book than the first one. The book ends with a phone call from Harvey to Violet. He is wondering just who the decapitated body he found in his historic graveyard is and why exactly is he holding one of Violet's realty business cards in his hand??? On to book 3!!!! :) These books are fun, witty and full of mystery. I sat down and read this one in one sitting and then moved on to the next. Like I said they are fun to read and different and refreshing to the mystery genre. The characters are well built and fun to follow. I have to say I really enjoyed this book and recommend them to anyone who loves a bit of mystery with a lot of sarcasm and women getting the upper hand. Awesome read!

Great Fun! Harvey is hilarious. The sexual foreplay did get redundant.
