I always thought novellas like these were supposed to give us new insight or at least new information. This doesn't provide us with anything new. If anything it just serves to continue to butcher my opinion of Mangus as a character. Any small thing I may have liked about him has long since been gutted through these shorts. Mangus Bane has been written like that one person you know who when they find out something about them that you like or find particularly entertaining and choose then to exaggerate and over play it to the point where is becomes annoying. And of course we have to have our obligatory word humping of the Herondale clan. It doesn't matter that Stephen is an ugly person on the inside who is standing with a group about to murder innocent werewolves he's all angelic looking and shit so we're going to focus on that for a paragraph. The only real revelation I got from this, unless I missed it in one of the novels, is that the Lightwoods took over the Institue in spite of the fact that murdered the innocent family who showed up to defend honor and justice. Mangus isn't sure if he'll be able to work with them in a civil manner but I know that's all just pretty words. I suppose as long you have a hottie hot son he can stick it to who cares if you're a bunch of murdering jack offs. Also the title is misleading. The members of the New York Institute are barely even present in the story. They show up to be killed and that's it. In fact one of them is even described as the 'pet' of the family. That should give you some insight as to how prominent they are in spite of being titular characters. If it were being honest this would be titled 'Yet Another Rehash about the Circle and a Retelling of That Time Magnus Started Messing With Clary's Shadowhunter Abilities.' WHOA.... The beginning started a bit slow, but that got a little intense. This was definitely one the better chronicles. Spoiler Alert: Valentine is evil. ;) Not the main point of the story, but always excited for any Tessa or Zachariah. LOVED the meaning behind Fray and that it was them who helped Clary. And a digital high five to anyone who caught that Free To Be You And Me reference. Highly recommend! TIME TO GET THE BAND BACK TOGETHER FOR COHF!!!!!
itwas good. it was hard to imagine luke as the cruel person that he acted like.
