The Daughter Of Smoke And Bone Trilogy (2014) - Plot & Excerpts
As a whole I really loved this trilogy. I read the first book, and the moment I finished, could not wait to start reading the second, and likewise when it came to the third installment. I have read so many trite stories, only compelled myself to finish because I hoped that the author would do justice to the characters…only to be left unfulfilled. Not so here. The characters are rich in depth and you can sense the evolution they undergo throughout the entire trilogy, even the characters that initially seem minor. The finish left me breathless and surprised, which is astonishing, given turner's propensity to tease. My only grievance is I wanted it to continue. Most definitely there was enough story to continue on to a fourth book. Regardless, the story was fast paced and smart; the characters clearly defined and colorfully brought to life; the plot, perhaps a touch dark, but thought provoking nevertheless; Definitely outside the box for typical paranormal fodder. There are no vampires here. Honestly? No need. I look forward to the possibility of returning to the world of Eretz as there truly are so many more stories to tell. I had so many hopes going into this trilogy. I was promised it would be a compelling, don't want to put it down kind of read...which is was, just not like I had wanted. That being said it was good. Just good, though, not amazing. It's really hard for me when the hero and heroin are at odds for SO long. And I just hate the second books of almost all trilogies because they are historically (for me) heart wrenching and slow and awful. The second book of this series lived up to all I thought it would be. Haaa! But this story line was so original and I SSOOOO appreciated the comeuppance of all the side stories. I just adore seeing a semi horrible character get what's coming to them and our author delivered!!! After all was said and done, I enjoyed this series...it's just a one time read for me.
