What happens when he feels an attraction to Lily beyond a desire to feed off her life force?I've always wondered about freshwater mermaids, so I was thrilled to find this book. Unfortunately the plot felt one-dimensional. I believe that is what made the ebook a quick read. A good number of the characters didn't seem to belong in the story. I don't see how they contributed anything to the plot. Also, the story didn't become very interesting or exciting until the last third of the book, which is why I gave it the extra half star.The theme of this book is revenge versus forgiveness. This was a quick but flat read. I recommend this to those who are interested in mermaids or like novels centered in the Great Lakes. First of all, it is refreshing to read a book with a male narrator, especially in YA. Most books are from the female characters view point, but this was a great change to the norm. Calder is a merman on a mission. His family is sworn to find one man and kill him. The plan was simple, get close to the daughter, lure the father out, and kill him. That simple plan goes sideways when Calder finds himself falling in love with Lily, the daughter of the man he is supposed to kill. The plot was interesting, and the characters were pretty well developed, there were a few points that needed to be fleshed out a little more as far as some of the minor story lines, but overall this was an interesting read. This mythical mystery is sure to keep ya fans reading to the end of the trilogy.
