Wait For You (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

I loved it. Cameron (Cam) Hamilton is funny, sensitive, intuitive, has an abundance of patience, was persistent and consistent and so darn tooting HOT! I love the scenes between him and Avery, especially when he's asking her out. I loved that he loved to cook and bake. Five years ago, Avery was raped. She was fourteen years old. Her parents paid off and signed a non disclosure document about the incident. However, Blaine, the arsehole, told a different story and it was not rape;thus, Avery was marked and labeled a whore. At her high school, everyone, including her bestie, turned on her. At sixteen, she attempted an unsuccesful suicide. Her parents, particularly her mom, only cared about their social status and how her attempted suicide would stigmatize their standing in the community. Her parents did not offer any comfort to Avery. It just made her all the more determined to move as far away from her parents, the rape incident and her hometown Texas to West Virginia. They say change is good and I am a firm believer of it. For Avery, it was no exception. She not only bumped into the delicious Cam, but she met her classmates and new besties - Jacob and Britt, Ollie, Jase, Cam's sister, Teresa, Cam's parents. Last but not least, Raphael, Cam's pet turtle. Cam was tuned to Avery's feelings every time they got physically close. His sister, Teresa, went through a similiar situation and Cam being the big brother took matters into his own hands which resulted in the arsehole being in a coma. Fortunately, the boy woke up. Cam's father managed to get Cam out of jail;however, the whole situation made Cam miss a year of college and playing soccer. Cam is such an endearing character;whereas, Avery did get on my nerves, I empathize and sympathize with what happened to her. I despised the fact that her parents were not more comforting, protective and strong for their daughter. However, Avery had every opportunity to be honest with Cam and her new besties. I clapped when Avery finally said yes to going out with Cam. I sighed when they finally kissed and got chick a bow wow with each other. I did feel bad for Molly who was raped by the same person. She was sending mean and cruel e-mails, texts and calling Avery. It was Molly's way of asking for help. However, I did not think the slap was called for. Heck, I would have slapped her back not once but twice. Nonetheless, the book is a five star with me. Cam did it for me. Wait for you. Liked it, hated it. Some part of me is still not sure why, but I hope I'll come around eventually. The plot is very simple. Two guys like each other but since Avery, the main female lead, has a past that's still hurting her, their relationship gets bumpier than a camping trip on a cactus field.I think what I liked the most was Cam's character and the way he was always so cool about her crap. I mean, the title is not just random. What I didn't like was that Avery didn't tell him about her issues until the very end and it was kind of annoying because the interesting part, in my opini,on is to see how they get over the psychological mess.Seeing him clueless for the whole book and Avery pushing him away got on my nerves. What I liked instead, was the tender routine they shared.1- the Sunday egg tradition.2- Raphael (God, after reading this, I felt the urge to buy a turtle)3- The sharing-the-same-hallway thing. And then we have all the funny bantering and flirting and... cookies. I don't like treats usually, but for Cam cookies I could do crazy stuff. Also, the whole Thanksgiving with the family thing warmed my heart. The contrast between Avery's family and Cam's one was stark and heartbreaking. One flaw: Avery's parents. I love a little family drama here and there, but their characters felt so... wrong. Too wrong and even Avery's father last attemp to redemption didn't work out for me. I mean, you ignore your daughter and get mad at her after everything she's been through and that's completely fine for you? What's wrong with you, man?You need a shrink, a 5-grand-per-hour worth shrink. So, her parents weren't realistic characters. Her cousin was a little better, but her parents just fell on the not-so-probable side of Gauss curve. Undoubtedly parents like that exist, but the odds are so slim that their loath and complete uncare toward their daughter felt unreal.Anyway, there were some steamy sequences and I appreciated that Avery could still manage some kind of intimicy, not shell-shocking every time. JLA sure knows how to raise the temperature.
