Rhett Carter is a book blogger and even plays football in hopes of a college scholarship. He has a best friend and a girlfriend who mean the world to him. He seems like the typical high schooler until the day he's not ~ Salem's Revenge. The witches he has read about in books are real and they are not happy about they way they have been treated by humans. He is devastated after losing his foster family, and hopes he hasn't lost his best friend and girlfriend too. A neighbor trains him to be a witch hunter and he is on his way to try and survive the witch apocalypse, and maybe find his friends... The witches form groups called gangs that involve their specific powers - I love how the author describes and names these gangs. He meets Laney, Trish and Hex, a magical dog, on his journey. He meets various others along the way as well. Does he find his best friend and girlfriend? Will he realize he has special powers? I couldn't stop reading to find out what happened next. If you enjoy dystopian and witch stories, you have to read this book. There's adventure, love, funny times, sad times, friendship, sarcasm, evil, fighting, destruction, and a magical dog! I can't wait to read Boil, the second book in this series! I received a copy of this book from the author in the Goodreads group Never Too Old For Y.A. & N.A. Books for an honest review. From a nerdy athlete and book blogger who hates violence to one of the best witch hunters alive. Rhett Carter's life changes 180 degrees when Salem's return prompts Salem's revenge. Tired of being persecuted the witches, warlocks and wizards decide to destroy all humans. After his family is murdered and he is saved by an elderly neighbor(Mr. Jackson), Rhett finds a message from his girlfriend(Beth) in blood saying his best friend(Xavier) was taken away by the Necros. Determined to find his friends he trains with Mr.Jackson until he feels it's time to set out on his own. Once on his own he rescues a dog being used for magical experiments(Hex), teams up with a girl that's three kinds of crazy and trigger happy(Laney), and her mute sister(Trish). With all the ways Rhett changes he feels lost, so to stay true to himself he keeps a journal. His journal entries are a hugh insight into his character. Full of twists, turns, secrets and discoveries, you never know what to expect in this story. Along the way you'll also meet lots of interesting characters with unique personalities. This is the first book of David's that I have read but I know it won't be the last! Already looking forward to reading Boil(second book). David has the amazing ability to make his characters come to life. There was not one dull character in the whole story. This is a must read for just about everyone as it covers so many genres. I received this book as a read for review, but this in no way influenced my rating or review!
What do You think about Brew (2000)?
Another interesting concept from David!
