Loved the first book (Down for the Count). This book is centered on Cat, a secondary character from book 1. I liked her in that book, but found her extremely annoying in this one. Cat has had a crush on her brother's BFF forever and he stopped a night together a long time ago because he felt it wasn't right. Cat never got over it. Flash forward ten years and they have a one night stand, which SHE initiated and then ran way from. Instead of acting like an adult and talking about how she felt, she makes all sorts of presumptions and treats Shane poorly because she doesn't want to get hurt again. Ugh. I can't stand characters that do that and actually fast read thru the book because I just wanted to slap her. Guess what, adults in relationships actually talk to each other about their hopes and fears and just assuming the worst without actually have any discussion is such a cop-out and completely cowardly. For someone who is supposedly so "daring"? I thought she was anything but. She had the nerve to call Lacey cautious and boring, but really, Cat is way worse. Making all these assumptions based on what she thought her mother did (and gave up), without actually even talking to her mother about it? Jeez, what a stupid thing to do. I loved Shane and thought he should have told her to get lost. He didn't deserve how she treated him. I am seriously in love with Christine Bell's voice! It is laced with the perfect amount of humor and sensuality and makes her characters come alive. I loved this book from start to finish! Another sexy and funny read with characters that stole my heart. Prior to reading the book I skimmed a few reviews on Goodreads and read some stuff about Cat. Luckily I always make up my own mind about characters because I ended up really liking her and rooting for her HEA with Shane. Fave QuotesHe wore a threadbare white T-shirt that should’ve been as noteworthy as a bowl of oatmeal. Instead, it clung to his chest like it had aspirations of taking over for his skin. Hell, she’d have the same life goal.
What do You think about Hors De Combat (2013)?
