Twelfth Imam, The: A Novel (2010) - Plot & Excerpts
A promising start to a new series. Rosenberg once again shows some great insight into politics, both religious and otherwise, and crafts an exciting book around it. His knowledge of various religions is obvious, and it is intriguing to see certain scenarios play out. The characters are very interesting. Starting the story when they are children and showing several key moments of their lives is a good move, and he shows us the motivations of people on both sides. My main complaint is the ending of the book. It has a strong action sequence towards the end, followed by two characters meeting for an emotional climax, which is deserved but nothing spectacular... and then it ends. There is still much going on (and that will be explored in future books), but I would have preferred an indication of what might come next to wrap things up. I rarely write reviews, and even more rarely give 5 stars to books. This was a very well written story, mixing factual history with fictional 'what if's', Very well developed characters, great plot (despite the harsh cliff hanger), and great mixing of reality based story and religious based paranormal activity. (Not meant to sound so clinical, but not sure how to classify that!). I am heading to the library today (in about 30 mins) to get more of this author's books. Well done Good Sir! I look forward to your other books!
